Dear Mates. After a Successful first step in tourism, with the tour to Kerala, we at Trek Mates India has alreadymarked its position in the tourism industry. And to make it more prominent, andto also to provide one more best opportunity to our mates to spend their vacationsin a beautiful manner with their parents and kids, We at Trek Mates India announce a Family tour to Himachal Pradesh, in the month of May, starting from 4^th May to 13^th May ’ 2012.

The itinerary for the Tour will be as follows:

Day 1 (4^th May):

Start from Mumbai by Paschim express11.30 am bandra station

Day 2 (5^th May):

Get down at Chandigarh Station at 5.00pm.

A quick sightseeing of Rock Garden andSukhna Lake.

Check in at hotel by 8.00 pm

Day 3 (6^th May):

Travel from Chandigarh to simla. Enroutevisit Pinjore Garden.

Have lunch. Visit Simla mall Road

Check in at hotel at Simla.

Day 4 (7^th May):

Simla local sightseeing. (Naldehragolf Corse and Kufri )

Stay in Simla.

Day 5 (8^th May):

Whole day Travel from Simla to Manali(275 kms ghat journey). Enroute visit a Shwal Factory where we can see the actualshawl making process.

Day 6 (9^th May):

Go for Rafting in Beas River, back tohotel, lunch, Visit Gayatri temple, free time for shopping.

Day 7 (10^th May):

Visit Vashishta Temple, Rohtang Pass, Hidimbatemple, back to hotel, late lunch, Himachal Folk Dance (if Possible.)

Day 8 (11^th May):

Travel from Manali to Chandigarh (310km). Enroute visit Vaishnov devi Temple.

Day 9 (12^th May):

Start from Chandigarh towards Mumbai byTrain.

Day 10 (13^th May):

Reach Mumbai by 3.30 pm.

Chandigarh:

Chandigarhis the best-planned city in India, with architecture which is world-renowned,and a quality of life, which is unparalleled. As the capital of the states ofPunjab and Haryana, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh it is a prestigiouscity. The face of modern India, Chandigarh, is the manifestation of a dreamthat Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru envisaged and Le Corbusier executed.

Serenityand a city are two diametrically opposite concepts, which however, get beliedin the 'City Beautiful'. Chandigarh is a rare epitome of modernizationco-existing with nature's preservation. Simla:

Simla, is the capitalcity of Himachal Pradesh. A popular tourist destination, Shimla is oftenreferred to as the "Queen of Hills," a term coined by the British. Located in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft),the city of Simla is draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiencespleasant summers and cold, snowy winters.

Manali:

Manali at altitude of 1,950 m(6,400 ft) in the Beas River valley is an important hill station in themountains of Himachal Pradesh, India,near the northern end of the Kullu Valley.

Manaliwith population of approx. 30,000 is administratively a part of the Kullu district. The small town was the beginning of an ancient trade route to Ladakh and from there over the Karakoram Pass onto Yarkand and Khotan in the Tarim Basin.

The Charges for the Tour will be as follows:
Rs 21,000/- Per head
for 3^rd AC Train Tickets from BandraTerminals till Chandigarh and back.

Rs 19000/- Per head
without Train Tickets.

Harihareshwar

Surrounded by four holy hills Harihar,Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri Harihareshwar is a region in Konkan whichis amazingly beautiful with hills playing the perfect foil for long stretch ofpristine beach. The Harihareshwar temple built in the 16th century with the deitiesof Vishnu Brahma and Shiva is the primary attraction in Harihareshwar alongwith beautiful stretch of beach.

Bankot Fort
Region: Mandangad
District: Ratnagiri
Height: Sea fort (Slightly above sea level)
Difficulty: Simple

Bankot is a square shaped fort. On thesides of Bankot fort, there is a dry moat (Revni) dug out in the Jambhyastone. Jambhya stone is peculiar type of stone adorning a purple shadeand peculiarly it is incapable of storing water as the water invariablepercolates through it owing to its much porous nature. The main entrance (Mahadarwaja)of the fort is north-facing with a well sculpted arch and carvings. Watchguards dug out (Devdya) align on both sides of the Mahadarwaja with some pitsbeing dug out in the right Devdi. On the left, there are stepsleading towards Nagarkhana while there is an undergroundstorey and a tunnel on the right. A Maruti idol in the centrestands deserted now. On the west, there is a small entrance (Darwaja) leadingto a Bastion on the exterior of the fortifications. A deep well (nowdry and filled) occupied the centre of this bastion earlier and the adjacentwater tanks too are dry and obsolete now. One can leave the Buruj via asmall exit that leads to the surrounding moat and a beautiful “Revni” lyingnearby.

Velas Beach
Velas is the birth place of Nana Phadnis,one of the great prominent personalities in Maratha history. Due tothe sea-shore Velas is an existing place and it is situated near Bankot Bay.There is an old temple of Shri Bhairi- Rameshwar andin this temple all twelve months water is made available taking the benefit offavorable geographical conditions. A statue of Nana Phadnis is present outsidehis house. In Velas Mahalakshmi temple and Nana Phadnis house are theplaces to visit. Gokulashtami Festival is one of theimportant festival in Velas.Velas is also one of the popular breedingsites of Olive Ridley, which is an endangered species of turtle.

Kolad

Kolad, a thrivingtiny village in the Mahad region in the state of Maharashtra, is blessedwith natural foliage and luxuriant greenery. Situated at the backdrop of themajestic Sahyadris, Kolad’s magnificent valleys and marshlands give it apicturesque appearance.

The greatest attraction of this charming village is the ‘KundalikaRiver’, which is one among the fastestflowing river in South India. Water releasedfrom the nearby dams makes the river ever flowing. Kundalika riverbeds in Koladare ideal locations for adventurous activities like River Rafting, Kayaking,River Crossing, Flying Fox etc.

Have breakfast and start Kolad

Reach Kolad, Lunch

Can opt for Kayaking, River Crossing, and Flying Fox (optional) or enjoywater

And start our back journey. Evening refreshment on the way
Reach Dadar by 9:30 pm.

Note – The dates for Turtle Festival at Velas are yet to be announced, so wecan not assure you sighting of Baby turtles. Still as this is the start ofseason so there are bright chances of sighting.

Some details about the places

Hampi:

Hampi is a village in northern Karnataka state, India. It is located within the ruins of Vijayanagara, the former capital of theVijayanagara Empire. Predating the city of Vijayanagara, it continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, as well as several other monuments belonging to the old city. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed as the Group of Monuments at Hampi.

Badami:

Badami, formerly known as Vatapi, is a town and headquarters of a taluk by the same name, in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka, India. It was the regal capital of the Badami Chalukyas from 540 to 757 AD. It is famous for rock cut and other structural temples. It is located in a ravine at the foot of a rugged, red sandstone outcrop that surrounds Agastya Lake.

The name Vatapi has origin in the Vatapi legend of Ramayana relating to Sage Agastya. There were two demon siblings Vatapi and Ilvala. They used to kill all mendicants by tricking them in a peculiar way. The elder Ilvala would turn Vatapi into a ram and would offer its meat to the guest. As soon as the person ate the meat, Ilvala would call out the name of Vatapi. As he had a boon that whomsoever Ilvala calls would return from even the Netherlands, Vatapi would emerge ripping through the body of the person, thus killing him. Their trick worked until Sage Agastya countered them by digesting Vatapi before Ilvala could call for him, thus ending the life of Vatapi at the hands of Ilvala. Two of the hills in Badami represent the demons Vatapi and Ilvala.

It is also believed that name Badami has come from colour of its stone (badam -Almond).

Hubli:

Hubli, also called Hubballi, is a major city in the state of Karnataka of India. The name Hubballi literally means "flowering creeper" in Kannada. The twin cities of Hubli and Dharwad, collectively referred as "Hubli-Dharwad", are the second-largest conurbation in Karnataka after Bangalore. While Dharwad is the administrative headquarters, the city of Hubli, situated about 20 km south-east of Dharwad, is the commercial centre and business hub of North Karnataka. Crops like cotton and peanuts are grown aplenty in the surrounding rural areas, and Hubli is a major trading centre for both commodities. It is also an important city for the Indian Railways, being the headquarters for South Western Railway Zone and the Hubli Railway Division.

The Cost for the event:
> Trek Mates organisation will pay for the food and accommodation of all the participants which will be equally divided among every member of the trek after the event.
> Rs. 500 extra will be added to the same (per person), considered as the administration charges for Trek mates India.
> Petrol and Maintenance cost should be settled by the bike rider and the person accompanying him.
> In case, of a single rider, the petrol and maintenance charges has to be paid by him alone. (Trek Mates will provide info about a willing participant who can accompany you, and share the expenses. this depends on availability of such willing participants.)

Ø People without bikes can register as well, as we will be getting a private vehicle with us. The costs however will be on the same basis as above.

Alang & Madan, situated in Kalasubai range, are oneof the most difficult forts in Nasik District. They are little neglected due tovery heavy rains & confusing, difficult ways.

Saturday:
We start fromMumbai by last Kasara local to reach Kasara by 2 am.
Travel tillAmbewadi by local jeeps till 4/5am on Sunday.
Start trek by 7,reach the col between both the forts till 11 am
Climb Madan fort& explore it till 3 pm
Get down &climb Alang till 6 pm.
Explore & stayon Alang.

Sunday:
Watch the sunriseexplore d remaining fort, breakfast & start descending by 9 am.
Have our lunch inIgatpuri.
Reach Kasara by 5pm approx.

The charges of the trek will be Rs 1100/perhead, which includes
Travel expenditure from Kasara to Kasara, FoodFacilities, Equipments and Expertise.

A bottle of water (At least 2 Ltrs),

Dear Mates, We at Trek Mates India always work upon delivering something new to you all. So here it comes.

Trek Mates India announces a Macro Photography Workshop for amateurs and upcoming photographers on 21^st and 22^nd Jan ’12.

The workshop will be conducted by a very well known professional wildlife photographer, Mr. Yuwaraj Gurjar. Mr Yuwaraj Gurjar is a passionate wildlife photographer, whose passion has been seen by many of our national parks since last 25 years. A publisher of books / articles on nature / photography. Since 1994, Mr Gurjar has got more than 500 photography articles published in various newspapers and magazines. His Photographs from the wild have won many awards in National as well as International competitions.

So this is a great opportunity for us to extract the best of his knowledge on his favourite subject: Macro Photography and Insect photography.

The event will conducted in three different sessions as follows:

Session 1: Indoor Lecture on Basic and Macro Photography, which will be conducted on Sat afternoon (approx 4 hrs session)

Session 2: Morning visit to Yeoor or Nagla block (Borivali National Park) for actual Photography on Sunday (Approx 4-5 hours)

Session 3: Post lunch indoor session on Post – processing by Ms. Vedwati Padwal. After this session there will be evaluation of the Photographs which were clicked in the morning, where you can also clear your doubts about Photography.

The Charges for the Workshop will be Rs 1800/- per head, which includes indoor as well as outdoor sessions. (Traveling for the outdoor session and food for the event is not included). However at least 15 people strength will be compulsory for the event to be conducted. (Max 25 entries)

Some details about the fort

Harishchandragad:
Type: Hill Fort
Height: 4500 Feet above MSL (Approx)
Grade: Medium (5.5 hrs trek)
District: Thane, Nagar, and Pune
Region: Malshej
Base Village: Khireshwar

Harishchandragad: The fort is quiteancient, considered to be from the Medieval period. The Great sage Changdev(one who created the epic Tatvasaar), used to meditate on Taramati/Rohidas in14th century. The caves are also from the same period.Harishchandragad wascaptured by the Marathas in 1747 from the Moguls.

Taramati: This is the topmost point on the fort. It is the secondhighest peak in Maharashtra after kalsubai. Leopards are seen in the forestsbeyond this peak. From here we can have a glimpse of the whole range ofNaneghat and the forts near Murbad (This will be visited only if time permits.)

Konkan Kada: The most interesting point on this fort is this cliff,which has always fascinated many people from many years. The cliff faces westand looks down upon the Konkan with a breathtaking view of the surroundingregion and sunset. This cliff is not just vertical; it is an overhang, almostlike a cobra's hood.

Kedareshwar: The cave of Kedareshwar has a big Shivlinga, which istotally surrounded by water.

The itinerary for the Trek is as given below:

> Meeting Point: Kalyan station at 10.00 pm sharp (the latecomers won’t be entertained, as we will be Starting by the 10.30 pm bus)
> Bus journey till murbad, followed by jeep journey till Bailpada.

> Reach by 2 am. Rest till morning (6.00 am), have tea, andstart our trek by 7 am.
> Lunch in the way, reach the top by 4pm approx.
> Here we explore Kokan kada, and head towards the caves for our dinner,Campfire and night stay.
> Next day morning we can explore Taramati peak, harishchandra fort and thenstart descend via the Tolar Khind Route by 10 am.
> Lunch at the Base, and start our return journey.
> Reach Mumbai approx by 10 Pm on Sunday.

The charges of the trek will be Rs 900/per head, which includes

Little Info About the Fort
Type: Hill forts
Height: 2835 ft / 864 m
Fort Range: Malshej
Grade: Medium
Maximum group size – 20 only

As one travels along the Malshej Ghat road, one notices sharp pinnacle of Bhairavgad, separated from the main range. It raises steeply from the Kankan plains and is rather tricky to climb .A prominent and unique fort.

The initial hike is through loose soil Followed by rock cut steps. The walls overhang a little, and above, the steps are blown off .One will have to rock climb carefully above the overhang.

More crumbling steps and plenty of scree before reaching the top make the trek more exciting.

The top offers a great view of Malshej Ghats, Nane Ghat and many prominent peaks like Ajoba and Harishchandragad.

The approx Itinerary for the trek will be as follows:
Meeting Point Kalyan Station on platform no one below the indicator Sharp at 6:30 am.
Proceed by bus from Kalyan Depot.
Reach the base village Moroshi by 09.00 am.

Refreshment at base village
Start the trek and reach atop by 01:30 pm
Descend to Moroshi by 05:30 pm

Refreshment at Murbad
Start our return journey & reach Kalyan by 09:00 pm.

Kalavantin Durg is situated on northeast side of Panvel, on Mumbai-Pune road. Can see it from express highway a V-Shaped one. The Left one is Kalwantin Durg & right side is Prabalgad.

The fort top commands an excellent view of the surroundings with Prabal in the front. Matheran, Chanderi, Shrimallang, Irshal Karnala, Manikgad, etc can be easily identified.

Kalavantin durg is a adjoining hill (pinnacle) to Prabalgad.

Now Fly into the sky like the birds way up high!

We are glad to announce Tandem Paragliding at Kamshet.

There will be two batches on two consecutive Sundays in December

Batch 1 – 4^th Dec 2011

Batch 2 – 11^th Dec 2011

Some info about the event:

Place: Kamshet, Lonavala.

Base: Tower hill, Pawana Lakeside.

Gliding Time: 10-12 mins approx.

No prior experience or training is required

Without any training or experience you can enjoy the experience of flying like a pro for 10-12 minutes and enjoy the breathtaking sites. Let the pilot do the work while you enjoy the ride, savoring the amazing experience of soaring over beautiful hills and fields like an eagle high up in the sky.

Don't forget to bring your cameras to capture this beauty.

The itinerary for the event is as given below:

Meeting Point for Mumbai People: Thane Stn (platform no 5) at 6.00 am.

From here we move ahead to Lonavala by Indrayanai Express. (Reach by 8.00 am)

8.05 am-Local from Lonavala to Kamshet

Meeting point for Pune ppl: Kamshet at 8.15 am.

Move ahead by Jeep/ auto till the gliding spot.

Paragliding activity till evening.

Back by auto/jeep till Kamshet.

Refreshment,
Train journey from Kamshet till Mumbai.

Reach Mumbai approx by 10.00 pm.

The cost for the event will be INR 2500/- per head, which include:
All Technical gear and equipment,
Services of expert instructors.
(Extra Glide will be allowed for INR 2400/- per glide, if time permits)

Travelling from Kamshet till Kamshet, Breakfast and refreshment or any other expense will be on TTMM. These expenses will be initially bore by Trek Mates India & then equally divided among all at the end of event.

Important Note –

1. Paragliding is totally weather dependent adventure sports. We cannot guaranty you the glides. For the same reason you are requested to keep a whole day free as you can take off at any point of time depending upon the wind conditions.

2. Refund Policy - You will be informed a day before the event regarding weather conditions. In the worst case event is subjected to cancellation and you will be refunded the paid amount deducting INR 100 per person within 7 working days post event date.

Caution:

Tandems can be enjoyed by any person from the age 7 onwards.
As with other adventure activities, the flight may not be suitable for persons suffering from high BP, heart ailments and back problems. If in doubt, it is always advisable to check with your doctor.

It is very important to cooperate and obey the instructions of the pilots before, after and during the tandem flight.

Some information regarding the place and the tour:

Bandhavgarh National Park is oneof the most popular national parks in India located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh was declared as a national park in 1968 with an area of 105 km². The buffer isspread over the forest divisions of Umaria and Katni and totals 437 km².The park derives its name from the most prominent hillock of the area, which is said to be given by Hindu Lord Rama to his brother Lakshmana to keep a watch on Lanka (Ceylon). Hence the name Bandhavgarh (Sanskrit: Brother'sFort).

Bandhavgarh shot into fame with Charger and Sita sightings inmid nineties, ever since there has been no looking back for this national parkin MP. The Tiger density in the Tala zone of this park puts rest of the parksto shame. A rare jewel as far as Tiger sightings are concerned, Bandhavgarhattracted lot of media attention for the number of Tigers one would see in eachSafari. Tourists would come out of the park saying they saw 4, some 5, someeven 6 in just one safari. Sounds unbelievable, but it is 100% true.
