Hey Mates, after a successful Raigad Pratapgad Bike trek with 23 bikes, we at Trek Mates are again on for a Bike trek to Murud-Janjira, Korlai, Phansad, Kashid Beach on 5th-6th Dec '09
Some info about the event
Total distance covered will be 400 Kms in two days.
The places that will be visiting are:

Shree Rameshwar Mandir, Chaul
This ancient shrine of Shiv looks like built in 'Hemadpant' style of Architecture, though, when it was built is not known. Angre history references say that it was renovated many times. The structure comprises of prayer hall (sabhamandap), sanctum sanctorum and 7.62 meter high summit shaped dome. In front of the prayer hall, there are three tanks (kund) namely Parjanya Kund, Agni kund and Vayoo kund.
Revdanda
located at 17 Kms. From Alibag Revdanda is an important port. The Salav bridge at Revdanda which joins Murud and Alibag gives a cool view of the surroundings, You can see a beautiful sight of Revdanda port, beach and The Vikram Ispat factory from the bridge. A walk to the adjoining beach will give you a breathtaking view of the Revdanda Fort. The fort was built by a Portuguese Captain by the name of Soj in 1558.
Korlai Fort
Korlai fort can be seen from the bridge at Salav, located at three Kms. from Revdanda, on the Revdanda - Kashid road. The fort is an Old Portuguese outpost guarding the entrance to the river. A small road leads up to the top of the fort. There is a Lighthouse on the fort and a small climb from behind the lighthouse will take you to the fort. The fort is in ruins, but the view from the lighthouse is beautiful and the rocky beach at Korlai is also good.
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary
The Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is an amazing revelation. Primarily a bird sanctuary, Phansad is also home to a whole array of insects, amphibians and mammals. Spread across 52.71 sq. km., Phansad is located in the Murud and Roha talukas of Raigad District in Maharashtra.
The Janjira Fort
Janjira is Marathi corruption of the Arabic word Jazirah, which means an island. The Janjira Fort was built by the rulers of the Ahmed Nagar under the patronage of emperor Malik Amber in the 15th century AD. The fort is build in the sea 2 km inside of Murud. This is one of the vital sea-forts in Maharashtra. It has strong walls 40 ft high and standing intact even after being battered by the sea waves from all four sides. the fort was never conquered by any enemy for over 350 years. Shivaji, Sambhaji and the Peshwas tried to take over the fort. But the Marathas, British or Portuguese could never capture Janjira.
Kashid Beach
The famous Kashid beach is located 18 kms from Murud. The specialty of this beach is the beautiful silvery white sand. It's a favourite spot for advertising, TV serial and film shoots. The beach is complete with small food-stalls. If you are travelling from Alibag to Murud, the last U-turn in the Ghat section of the road that descends on the Kashid beach is simply mesmerizing'!
Birla Temple (Vikram Vinayak Mandir)
About 20 kms from Alibag, this temple is one of the must visit places. This temple is on a hill top and was built by the Vikram Ispat Company. The temple is built using pure white marble and is noticable from a distance. Around the temple, the landscape is gardened. A walk in this garden is a refreshing experience. The temple is open for visit from 6:00 am to 11:00 am and from 4:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
Padmadurg:(will be covered if time permits, and if we get permissions from the same.)
Spread over a vast area of about 9 acres, Padmadurg Fort is regarded as one among the major sea forts in India. A monument of great historical importance, it is situated in Raigad District of Maharashtra. This famous fort is constructed by the great Marathas in order to conquer the Janjira Fort which lies near by.
Padmadurg Fort commemorates the repeated failure attempts of the mighty Marathas reigme against the tiny Siddis. Padmadurg fort which is now called as Kasa fort, spilt in to three by the ravage of time and now it is not accessible to the public. Ruins of this great fort can be seen from the seashore.

Day 1
Meeting point: McD at kalamboli (the one situated just before the starting of the expressway.)
at 7.00 am on 5th Dec.
> Start riding by 7.30 am
> Breakfast at Wadkhal naka
> Visit Rameshwar temple >> Revdanda fort >> Korlai fort >> Phansad on first day
> Tented accomodation in Phansad
Day 2
> Next day visit Murud, Janjira fort
> Enjoy at Kashid beach till Sunset.
> Visit Birla Temple and start back journey
> Reach Panvel approx by 10 pm
The Cost for the event:
>Trek Mates will pay for the food and accommodation of all the participants which will be equally divided among every member of the trek after the event.
>Rs. 100 extra will be added to the same (per person), considered as the administration charges for Trek mates.
>Petrol and Maintenance cost should be settled by the bike owner and the person accompanying him.
>In case, of a single rider, the petrol and maintenance charges has to be paid by him alone. (Trek Mates will provide info about a willing participant who can accompany you, and share the expenses. this depends on availability of such willing participants.)
