TMI: Nature Trail to Sanjay Gandhi National Park on 26th Oct '12.

Hey Mates, Get ready for your visit to Learn about our surrounding nature – Plants, animals, insects, butterflies, etc. as Trek Mates India brings to you a nature trail to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park – from Kanheri Caves to the Second highest point of Mumbai on 26th Oct '12.

The Sanjay Gandhi National Park, also known as Borivali National Park, is a unique National Park in itself, as it lies within the borders of a city. The park lies on the northern fringes of suburban Mumbai, India. It covers an area of 104 sq km. It is one of Asia's most visited National Parks with 2 million annual visitors. The park also holds claim to be the largest park in the world located within any city limits.

The park was notified in 1974. The park offers a pleasant change from the usual sights, attractions, rush and glamour of the big city. The undulating green lands of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park are just the kind of surroundings to which one would love to retreat for some moments of quiet introspection or meditation. The great panoramic views of hills, valleys, lakes and open expanses can actually have a soothing effect on mind, body and soul. The Sanjay Gandhi National park is known for its dense forests, vast bird life, butterflies, and the small population of tigers. The park also encompasses the famous Kanheri Cave complex (between 1st century BC and 9th century AD), two lakes Tulsi and Vihar Lake that provide water to Mumbai city.

The trail is a quite famous place among many naturalists, for bird watching and insect and butterfly study. There had also been news about this area many a times for the expected tiger sightings, for many leopard sightings, and many more insects and bird sightings, which are very rare in other parts of our country.

Any large group of people for even an aim with just to observe or study the nature, or just to photograph the nature at its best can cause harm to the forest, to the surroundings, and thus to the wildlife. So we restrict this event only for 30 interested participants, for whom this event might turn up to be the best of the nature trails that they have ever visited. Also the trail will be lead by a naturalist from the Sanjay Gandhi National park, who can deliver to us, the best of his knowledge from his experience and studies that he has from his past work of last so many years.
