clubbed it up with Chambal Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary on 18th to 22nd
January 2014.
One
of the finest bird parks in the world, Bharatpur
Bird Sanctuary also known as Keoladeo
Ghana National Park is a reserve that offers protection to faunal
species as well. Keoladeo, the name derives from an ancient Hindu temple,
devoted to Lord Shiva, which stands
at the centre of the park. 'Ghana' means
dense, referring to the thick forest, which used to cover the area. Nesting
indigenous water- birds as well as migratory water birds and waterside birds,
this sanctuary is also inhabited by Sambar,
Chital, Nilgai and Boar.
National
Chambal Sanctuary,
also called the National Chambal
Gharial Wildlife Sanctuary, is a 5,400 km2 tri-state protected area in
northern India for the critically endangered
gharial (small crocodiles), the red-crowned roof turtle and the endangered Ganges
river dolphin. Located on the Chambal River near the tripoint of Rajasthan,
Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, it was first declared in Madhya Pradesh in
1978 and now constitutes a long narrow eco-reserve co-administered by the three
states. Within the sanctuary the pristine Chambal River cuts through mazes of
ravines and hills with many sandy beaches.
Wildlife Expert: Mr. Harishchandra Mhatre, is a dedicated birdwatcher and naturalist from Mumbai who has studied and reported
birds from various habitats extensively. Bird photography is his passion but he
believes in enjoying birds at its best via Binoculars. He has done
extensive photo-documentation of rare & ecologically important bird species
and it is always a great treat to listen to his on-field experiences.
The
Tentative Itinerary for the event will be as follows:
Day 1: Start from Mumbai by Paschim Express
Meeting Point: Bandra
Terminus at 10.30 am
Start by Paschim express from Mumbai.
Day 2: 19th
Jan
Reach Bharatpur Junction-BTE by early morning by 6.30 am. Check in
hotel, freshen up and get your gears ready for this birding paradise.
Ice-breaker and breakfast. After a short briefing session by our leader visit
the prime locations of bird sanctuary. Post lunch leave for the second
session in Sanctuary. Evening back to hotel. Experience sharing about
today’s sighting over the dining table. Dinner and lights off.
Day 3: 20th
Jan
Early morning have breakfast and leave for exploring the famous
Chambal river. Chambal Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for four prime species
A) Gharial Crocodiles B) Indian Skimmer birds C)
Gangetic river dolphins 4) Red-crowned roof turtles.
During this visit, we will be taking trails along the bank of
Chambal river and would also be experiencing its rich biodiversity in boat
rides.
Evening back to hotel and have delicious dinner. After
dinner a small experience sharing session and lights off.
Day 4: 21st Jan
Early morning check out and proceed for last day bird watching
session. After Breakfast check out of hotel and start return journey to Mumbai
by Golden Temple Express.
Day 5: 22nd Jan
Reach Mumbai early in the morning with
Sweet memories and lots of pics.
The
tour cost will be 9200/- per person + Train Fares.
