TMI : Bike trip to Kaas, Banmoli Lake, and Thoseghar Waterfall on 20th and 21st Sept '14

Hi friends, Trek Mates India invites you all to a Bike trek to the Valley of flowers of Maharashtra: Kaas Plateau on 20th and 21st September 2014.

People who are keen about nature, flora and fauna, Photography and Bike Ride; Then this ride is for you.

Some information about the ride:
Maharashtra’s Valley of flowers: The Kaas Plateau where hundreds of varieties of wild flowers of all colors bloom every year; is situated approx. 25 Km from Satara city.
Type: Bike Ride
Grade: Medium
Route: Mumbai - Pune- Satara - Kaas & back
Distance: 600 km

The lateritic plateau of Kass has becomes home to millions of tiny flowers in late monsoons. The whole spectacle is beyond words.

More than 300 varieties of wild flowers, herbs, orchids, shrubs, insectivorous plants etc. can be seen here

This plateau overlooks the lush evergreen forests that serves as a water catchment area of Koyna Dam and which is recently declared as “Sahyadri Tiger reserve”

In monsoon the whole area transforms into an unbelievable carpets of flowers like yellow carpets of Smithia and Sonki flowers, Pink carpets of Balsam, Purple carpets of Karvi etc…. 

It is a dream destination not only for avid botanists but also for those who appreciate nature. These carpets change colors almost every week depending on the dominant flowers during that time.

Kass plateau and the surrounding area has a very good birdlife with good sightings of Crested Buntings, Malabar Crested Larks, Oriental White-eyes, and Bonelli’s Eagle.

The tentative itinerary for the Event is as given below:
Day 1: 20th Sept, Saturday Morning
Meeting Point: Mc Donalds, Kalamboli at 6.00 am sharp.
Pune people can join us at Wakad or Baner Road.

Ride till Satara.
Enjoy the highway ride(one of the best highways of Maharashtra).
Lunch on the way.
Reach Kaas, Check in at some Hotel.
Rest for some time.
Visit Kaas Plateau and Kaas Lake.
Site seeing, Photography, exploration till evening.Dinner and Day off

Day 2 : 21st September, Sunday
Post Breakfast , Morning Ride till Thoseghar waterfalls.
Visit Chalkewadi Windmill.
Exploration of surrounding areas till lunch.
Post lunch we will start our Return Journey
Reach Mumbai by 8-9pm

We will share the Route map at the Meeting Point.

Total Ride: 600 KM approx

The Cost for the event:
The Costing of the event will be on Actuals. Trek Mates will pay for the food and accommodation of all the participants which will be equally divided among every member of the trek after the event.
INR 500 extra will be added to the same (per person), considered as the administration charges for Trek mates India.

Expected Expenses: 2000/- per person (excluding Petrol/ Maintenance)

Petrol and Maintenance cost should be settled by the bike owner and the person accompanying him.
> In case, of a single rider, the petrol and maintenance charges has to be paid by him alone. (Trek Mates will provide info about a willing participant who can accompany you, and share the expenses. this depends on availability of such willing participants.)


Things To Be carried:
Identity proof (Must),
Bike’s Legal Papers, Helmet (Must)
A bottle of water (Atleast 2 Ltrs),
TORCH with extra batteries (compulsory).
Towel, Extra Pair of clothes,
Medicines, Personal Care stuff, Camera,Cap, etc.(Optional),
Its raining these days, so pack yr bags accordingly to save them from getting wet. Double pack your valuables in plastic bags.
