HAMTA PASS CHANDRATAAL TREK


One of the most delightful treks in the Manali region affording views of lush green valleys, towering snow clad mountains and barren hills with surrealistic forms and shapes. Leaving the Manali valley, the trek proceeds through evergreen cool forests of walnut, oak and pine. The views of the entire Kullu valley are excellent and are glimpsed all along the trail. Once atop the Hamta Pass (4200m.) then it is into The Chandra valley of Lahaul&Spiti district where barren towering mountains rise above lush green fields of potato and barley. 

Chandrataal ‘the lake of moon’  a beautiful lake set on a large meadow of edelweiss between a  barren and rugged mountain with an outlet in to Chandra river. A beautiful view of the samundra tapu glacier and Mulkila range is obtainable. And while coming back once atop of the Rohtang Pass (3970m.) another spectacular panorama of peaks appears in to the Lahaul valley and also one can have a dazzling view of luminous vale of the Manali valley.

The itinerary for the event will be as follows:
Day 01: 8th August ‘15
Meeting point: Bandra Terminus at 11.00 pm
Start from Mumbai by 11.35 am by Paschim Express for Chandigarh

Day 02: 9th August
Reach Chandigarh by 4.30 pm
Visit Rock Garden, and Saguna lake in Chandigarh
Travel to Manali by private vehicle
Dinner Enroute

Day 03: 10th August
Morning Check in at hotel in manali
Visit Manali Market
Day for rest and Acclimatization


Day 04: 11th August
Manali/ Prini – Uchungbiharhi (2900 m) 4 hours.
Drive 3 km from Manali to Prini and  16km more uphill to reach end of road at starting point of trek At Jobri. Trek to camp with 2 hrs on the easy section at the start . on the way there is Sethan village which is occupied by community those who came from Spiti&Kinnaur many years ago, known as a Khampas (gypsy community) and we finally reach the campsite on green meadow below rocky mountain beside the hamta river. Overnight in camp.

Day 05: 12th August:
Uchunbiharhi – Balukaghera (3600m) 5-6 hours
Today one has to cross mountain stream couple of time first to reach a beautiful camp site at Chhika which is just below a water fall. After that trail goes along the rushing river on the right side and rocky cliff on the left side. Just before the camp site one has to cross another small but rushing and cold stream .o/n in camp.

Day 06: 13th August:
Balukaghera – SheaGahru (3200m.) 6hrs
Over Hamta Pass (4270m.). The trail now begins to ascend towards the mighty Hamta Pass (4270m.) and one can have close views of DeoTibba and fabled Indrasan peaks. After that it is all the way descend down in a zigzag right to the campsite SheaGahru. SheaGahro means a cold place because it is very adjacent to the glacier snout. o/n in camp.

Day 07: 14th August:
SheaGahru – Chhatru (3360m.) 3hrs
Today’s walk is quite easy along the river. The massive mountains of the PirPanjal and Spiti ranges dominate the entire landscape till the campsite at Chhatru. Situated in Chandra valley Chhatru is a confluence point via Rohtang Pass, Hamta Pass and Spiti.  Chhatru – Chandrataal drive. 4hrs
Drive 38km on rough and dusty road of  Manali Kaza highway to reach Chandrataal.  A majestic serene lake surrounded by mighty Himalayan peaks. During summer time it is carpeted with wild alpine flowers. o/n and dinner in camp.

Day 08: 15th August:
Chandrataal to Manali drive.6-7 hrs.
Drive back to Manali following the same route along the Chandra river. At Rohtang Pass (3970m.)one can have a another spectacular panorama of peaks appears in to the Lahaul valley and also one can have a dazzling view of luminous vale of the Manali valley.
Rest Day at ease

Day 09: 16th August:
Drop from Manali to Chandigarh Airport
Flight from Mumbai to Chandigarh

The cost for the tour will be INR 15000/- per head,
which includes,

NOTE: If Porter is required, arrangements can be done at Rs.250/- extra per day per bag.

It is very important that you line the inside of your bags with a big polythene sheet. Doing so will ensure, that in the event of rain, even though your bag may get wet, your clothes will still remain dry!
