Some Information about the Fort:
Place: Gorakhgad fort
Height: 2137 ft
Base Village: Dehri
District: Thane
Difficulty Level: Medium (Rock patches)
Endurance Level: Medium

Gorakhgad is a fort which can be done easily in a day, both from Mumbai and Pune. Though not famous for any historical events, Gorakhgad attracts trekkers due to its inviting pinnacles, which offer good opportunities for rock-climbing. This region of Gorakhgad and Machchindragad has a dense forest cover.
Fort Gorakhgad is quite small in size. It was having strategic importance during the reign of Shahaji Raje. However, no major battle is recorded to have taken place here. It was used in Shivaji's era to patrol the nearby region and was used as a stopover station during the journey to Junnar via Naneghat. Though small in size, there is enough availability water and a lot of space for accommodation. The fort gets its name from Saint Gorakhnath, who performed his "Sadhana" in this place.

The itinerary for the Trek is as given below:

20th June '15, Saturday:

Meeting Point: Kalyan Stn, Platform no 1, Below the indicator, at 6.00 am.

Move to Murbad by ST bus.
Further go till Dehri (Base Village) by Jeep/ST.
After breakfast start trek by 9.30 am. 

Reach the caves till 12.00 pm.
Explore the fort, have lunch, and start descend.
Refreshment and start our back journey by ST/jeep.
Reach Kalyan by 9.00pm. (approximately)


The charges for the trek will be Rs 500/- per head, which includes
Travelling from Kalyan to Kalyan
Breakfast & Evening Refreshments

Things To Be carried:
Lunch for the day,

A bottle of water (atleast 2 Ltrs),
Some ready to eat food. Plum cakes, Biscuits etc.
Towel, a napkin, Extra Pair of clothes
Windcheaters, Camera, Cap, etc. (Optional)
Medicine those if u require usually
A good trekking shoes, extra pair of socks
A haversack to put in all the things to be carried....so that one has ones hands free while trekking. Pleases do not carry sling bags or Jholas.
Please avoid wearing Gold and other ornaments.


Rains are expected, so pack your bags accordingly to save them from getting wet. Double pack your valuables in plastic bags.


Limited seats, entry on first come first served basis.
