Bhairavgad & Ghanchakkar are two moderate level less explored treks. We would like you to explore these lesser known trekking destinations. We at Trek Mates India, invite you for Trek to Bhairavgad (Shirpunje) & Ghanchakkar top on 27th- 28th June 2015.

Bhairavgad Fort
Type: Hill Fort
Base Village: Shirpunje
Height : 1145 mtrs
Grade: Medium


Bhairavgad Fort: is located in Shirpunje village 27 km from Rajur in the Akole taluka of Ahmednagar district There are two ways to go to Bhairavgad 1)From Shirpunje village 2)From Ambit village nearby Pachnaai the base village of Harishchandragad. This fort is believed to be ancient and almost 2500 years old.This fort has only few ruins and remains on the top.There are two big caves on the top in which one cave is a shrine of Lord Bhairavnath and another cave is used for residence purpose for trekkers and visitors There are many water tanks on the top but only one tank is having water suitable for drinking The idol in cave is very good carved, painted and this shrine is well maintained by the villagers of Shirpunje.

Ghanchakkar Hill
Type: Hill Range
Base Village: Shirpunje
Height: 1532 mtrs (3rd highest peak of Sahyadris in Maharashtra)
Grade: Medium


Ghanchakkar is a complicated hill, with many ridges & walls on all the sides. May be it derives its peculiar name from its shape. It is a place full of crystals, one can also find some beautiful stones. The hill stands on the range coming from Kathra towards Wilson dam. It’s around 5 km hillwalk from Shirpunje village.

Tentative Itinerary of the trek:
26th June, Friday Night:
> We start from Mumbai by Kasara local (timings given below) to reach Kasara by 3 am.

27th June, Saturday:
> Travel till Shirpunje by local jeeps till 4/5am on Saturday.
> Post Breakfast, Start trek towards Ghanchakkar by 8,
> Climb the fort till 12 noon and descend by 5 pm
> Dinner; stay in Temple premise.

28th June, Sunday:
> Wakeup call at 06:00 am, breakfast; start ascend by 07 am.
> Explore the fort & descend by 12 noon
> Have our lunch in Ambewadi.
> Reach Kasara by 5 pm approx

We will be leaving by Last Kasara Semi Fast - Mulund Local. (SLOW after Mulund)

10:57 pm: Byculla
11:05 pm: Dadar
11:13 pm: Kurla
11:18 pm: Ghatkopar
11:30 pm: Mulund
11:34 pm: Thane
11:57 pm: Dombivali
00:07 am: Kalyan
01:18 am: Kasara

Take Return Ticket till Kasara; Board third last compartment, so that we can meet in the compartment itself.

Things To Be carried:
Identity proof (must)
Lunch for Saturday
Torch with Extra Batteries (must)
Good trekking shoes (must)
A bottle of water (at least 2 Ltrs)
Warm Jacket to wear in the morning,
Extra Pair of Clothes,
Sleeping Bag / Bedding,
Bunch of Newspaper,
Some ready to eat food. Plum cakes, Biscuits etc.,
Sunscreen, Cap, Camera etc
 Medicines; personal care stuff those if u require usually (Optional)

A haversack to put in all the things to be carried....so that one has ones hands free while trekking. Please do not carry sling bags or Jholas.

Please avoid wearing Gold and other ornaments.

It might be raining these days, so pack your bags accordingly to save them from getting wet. Double pack your valuables in plastic bags.
